Note Taking for Interpreters Workshop

This workshop focuses on applying knowledge gained from the “Introduction to Note taking for Interpreters" self-paced online short course. Participants will be given the opportunity to practise note taking techniques first-hand, using tailored monologues. To conclude the workshop, there will be a discussion on the difficulties participants encountered and possible strategies to improve future performance.

This is a live online workshop (via Zoom) that is delivered in partnership with RMIT University. 

Learners must complete the short course 'Introduction to Note Taking for Interpreters' within 2 weeks prior to attending the live workshop (this is included as part of your registration fee).

This workshop focuses on applying knowledge gained from the “Introduction to Note taking for Interpreters" self-paced online short course. Participants will be given the opportunity to practise note taking techniques first-hand, using tailored monologues. To conclude the workshop, there will be a discussion on the difficulties participants encountered and possible strategies to improve future performance.

  • $175 inc GST - This includes both the online short course and workshop registration

  • Striking a balance between using your memory and note-taking

Presented by:

Peter Pei, RMIT

Peter Pei is a NAATI Certified Mandarin Interpreter/Chinese<>English Translator with over 10 years’ experience in the translation and interpreting industry. Over the years, Peter has completed a wide range of interpreting assignments including diplomatic interpreting where long consecutive interpreting is often required. He currently teaches translation at RMIT University. Peter will be giving a presentation on note taking for long consecutive interpreting assignments.    

 

 

Learning Goals: After completing this workshop you will gain:

  • Analyse discourse/syntax

  • Apply note taking techniques

  • Develop your own symbols

  • Use some consecutive interpreting coping strategies

  • Balance note taking with the use of short-term memory in consecutive interpreting.

 

PD Logbook

A Certificate will be issued upon completion of the course. Learners will be eligible to 20 PD points towards recertification (Section 1.4 of NAATI Recertification PD Catalogue).

You will receive 2 sets of certificates:

  • 10 PD Points Section 1.4 from the Introduction to Note Taking Course
  • 10 PD Points Section 1.4 from attending the Live Workshop

Some courses may attract PD points from multiple categories. Please choose the most appropriate category for your recertification.
